Dr. Felicia S. ODAME
Gender Specialist and President of the Board
​
A professionally qualified Sociologist/Social Worker, Rural Developer,Teacher and Senior Lecturer at the University of Development Studies with extensive knowledge and skills in gender studies, community development, research work and expertise in workshop training programmes. She also has many publications in Peer Review Journals. This qualification has been gained through academic training and a wide range of positions with both government and non- governmental organizations.
She holds a PhD in Endogenous development, her doctoral studies was on Non-Formal Education and Social Change in Northern Ghana. Her motivation for this research is based on her exposure in community work in rural areas in Ghana. She has witnessed the extent of poverty in the rural areas due to high illiteracy rate. With her knowledge in Endogenous Development Studies, she is motivated to review concepts and policy frameworks designed to deliver a variety of NFE Programmes aimed at transforming the lives of people.
Vice President of the Board
Vienna Macleod has an MSc in International Relations and Global Issues from Nottingham University. She has worked on development projects here at AFAWI in Ghana and in East Asia. With managing director Philip, she helped set up a project to enrol vulnerable children into education and health schemes.
Vienna currently works in the media sector for Guardian News and Media where she has worked on marketing campaigns to promote a sustainable future for independent journalism and now manages strategic business development projects.
Philip Kwesi AGYEI
Founder, Executive Managing Director of AFAWI and Secretary of the Board

Philip has over 15 years of working experience in the Non-Profit sector, promoting gender equality focused sustainable development. He further possesses great experience in community management, social research, and monitoring and evaluating. He strongly believes in citizenship engagement, behaviour change communication strategy, mobilizing communities through education and gender equality, to achieve sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Angelika Poferl’s work and research interests include gender cultures, theories of modernity and globalisation, sociology of knowledge and culture, microsociology, qualitative methods and methodologies of social research, and analysis of contemporary societies.

After her diploma in sociology in 1989 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, she worked as a researcher at the Munich Social Research Center e.V. (Münchner Projektgruppe für Sozialforschung e.V.) until 1996. She was an assistant of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Beck from 1996 to 2004, reached her PhD at the University of Augsburg in 2002, and was an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Qualitative Research at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich from 2005 to 2010 (evaluation 2009). She moved to the Fulda University of Applied Sciences as Professor of Sociology and Globalisation in 2010. In 2016 she accepted a call to the TU Dortmund University in 2016 as holder of the Chair in General Sociology.

She is married and mother of two daughters and lives in Munich and Dortmund, Germany.
Member of the Board
Florence Avery is an educator working in a primary school in Bristol, UK. She is a qualified teacher and supports children with their mental health and wellbeing in her current role of Learning Mentor. Flo is currently undertaking further study to become a psychologist.
Flo volunteered with AFAWI in 2014, contributing to research into attitudes to HIV/AIDS and sexual health education in Ga East, Accra. Since returning to the UK she has regularly fundraised for AFAWI. In 2017 she helped to create a link between BVDA (a volunteering group based at the University of Bristol), and AFAWI, helping to secure a new cohort of
volunteers for summer 2018.
Yaw Adu DARTEY
Financial Director and Member of the Board

Yaw also has over 15 years of working experience in the Non-Profit sector, promoting gender equality focused sustainable development from the financial side. He is an expert at preparing budgets, internal audits and maintaining financial and internal controls.
